How to Choose an AI Visibility Tool: A Comparison Framework

By Keith Schilling · August 7, 2026 · 6 min read

The AI visibility tool market went from empty to crowded in about two years, and the tools genuinely differ — in method, in coverage, in price by a factor of a hundred. The good news: a handful of questions sorts the field quickly, because the differences that matter are methodological and vendors can't fake their answers.

(Yes, we sell one of these tools. The framework below is the same one we'd use to shop, and it doesn't automatically pick us — the last section is explicit about who shouldn't buy Treyci.)

The methodology questions that sort the market

How many times is each prompt run per cycle? LLM answers vary between identical askings. Single-run tools report that variance as brand movement. Anything less than two runs per prompt per engine means the trendlines are partly noise. This question alone eliminates a surprising share of the market.

Which engines, reported how? You want the engines your buyers use — for B2B, realistically ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Grok — reported *separately*, because they disagree by margins that change your action plan.

Are competitors scored identically to you? Visibility numbers without a rival baseline are uninterpretable. "Configurable competitor set, same scoring" is the right answer.

Can you read the raw answers? When a score moves, you'll want the verbatim responses behind it. Tools that discard answers after scoring leave you unable to diagnose your own data.

Price tiers, and what each is actually for

~$29–100/month buys single-engine or single-run checkers — honest first looks for solo marketers, not measurement systems. ~$99–1,000/month is the serious-SMB-to-mid-market band where multi-engine, repeat-run methodology becomes available (this is where Treyci sits: four engines, three runs per prompt, from $99). Enterprise platforms — Profound is the benchmark — run annual contracts from roughly $30k upward, adding breadth: many markets, many brands, API access, SSO. Match the tool to the actual job

Buy the budget tier if the job is "convince myself this channel is real." Buy the middle tier if the job is "a monthly number I can defend to a CMO, plus the specific prompts and citations to work on." Buy enterprise if the job is "multiple brands and markets with a dedicated owner working the data daily" — genuinely, at that shape, the big platforms earn their contracts and Treyci is the wrong pick. The most common mistake in either direction is buying tooling for the program you aspire to run rather than the one you'll actually staff. A $99 tool that gets read monthly beats a $40k platform that becomes an unopened tab.

Measure it instead of wondering about it.

Treyci tracks your brand across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Grok — every prompt run three times, every month, from $99.
