Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit review — and how Treyci compares
Millions of buying questions have moved from search results pages to direct answers inside ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and their peers. Two very different kinds of tools now claim to measure whether your brand shows up in those answers: broad SEO suites adding AI modules, and purpose-built AI-visibility platforms. Here's our working review of the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit — including where it's the right choice — and where we think a dedicated tool wins.
Full disclosure: Treyci is a competing product. We've tried to keep the Semrush side accurate and generous — details are from their public materials, August 2026; verify current features and rates on their site.
Two philosophies of AI search measurement
The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit is an extension of the platform marketers already know: AI-answer tracking reported alongside the keyword, backlink, and site-audit infrastructure Semrush has built over fifteen years. Your AI visibility appears in the same interface as your rankings.
Treyci starts from the opposite end: generative engines don't retrieve pages the way crawlers do — they synthesize answers, and the same question produces different brand lists on different runs. So Treyci measures AI answers as a distribution: your category's real buying-intent questions, run across four engines, three times per prompt, every month, with every answer stored verbatim and scored for mentions, recommendations, and citations against named competitors.
Neither philosophy is wrong. They're built for different jobs — which is the honest frame for the whole comparison.

Where Semrush is genuinely strong
• One platform, one login, one invoice. If your team runs its whole search program in Semrush, an integrated AI module means no new vendor, no new workflow, and AI numbers next to the SEO numbers your reporting already uses.
• The traditional-search half of the picture. Rankings, backlinks, technical audits, content tooling — Semrush remains one of the best full-stack SEO suites, and classic search still drives most traffic for most companies today.
• Google AI surfaces. Their toolkit tracks Google AI Overviews and AI Mode specifically — natural territory for a company built on Google-search data.
Where a purpose-built tool pulls ahead
1. Measurement built for probabilistic answers
AI answers are dice rolls — ask the same buying question twice in fresh chats and you'll get different vendor lists. A tool that samples each prompt once is reporting that randomness as brand movement. Treyci runs every prompt three separate times per engine and scores the aggregate: “recommended in 2 of 3 runs” is a measurement; one answer is an anecdote. This is the single deepest difference between retrofitted rank-tracking and native AI measurement.
2. The verbatim answer, not just the score
In classic search, ranking #1 is simply good. In AI answers, being mentioned with stale pricing or a “best for” niche you never chose can actively hurt. Treyci stores the full text of every AI answer behind every score, so when an engine frames a competitor as the better fit — or describes you wrong — you can read the exact sentence, identify the stale source behind it, and fix it. A visibility percentage without the underlying answers can't tell you that.
3. Citation intelligence you can act on
When engines answer buying questions, they overwhelmingly cite third-party sources — review platforms, comparison articles, industry lists — rather than vendors themselves. Treyci ranks the domains the engines actually cite in your category, which turns citation data into a prioritized PR and outreach target sheet: every placement on that list shapes hundreds of AI answers at once.
4. An answer, not another dashboard
The most common complaint about enterprise analytics is data bloat — charts without instructions. Treyci's monthly deliverable is a written brief: what changed, why, and what to do next, in language you can forward to a CEO. For teams without a dedicated analyst to operate a suite, that's the difference between owning a measurement tool and actually acting on one.
5. Cost shape
Suite pricing makes sense when you use the suite. If AI visibility is the specific job, paying for a full SEO stack to get the AI module is buying a department store for one aisle. Treyci runs $99–$999 a month, month-to-month, sized by prompt volume — mid-market teams get the measurement without the platform tax.
The honest fork
Choose Semrush if your team already runs its search program there and you want AI visibility as an integrated line item next to rankings and backlinks — the convenience of one platform is a legitimate feature.
Choose Treyci if the question you actually need answered is “does AI recommend us, who beats us, why, and what do we do about it” — measured rigorously, explained in writing, without operating an analytics suite to get it.
FAQ
Is the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit worth it?
If your team already lives in Semrush for keywords, backlinks, and site audits, adding its AI visibility module keeps everything in one login and one invoice — that convenience is real. If AI visibility is the primary job rather than a checkbox, a purpose-built tool will usually go deeper on the measurement itself: repeat runs, verbatim answers, and competitor-level scoring.
What's the main difference between Semrush's approach and Treyci's?
Semrush extends its traditional search infrastructure into AI answers — visibility reported alongside rankings and backlinks. Treyci was built only for AI answers: category buying-intent prompts run across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Grok, three times per prompt every month, with every verbatim answer stored and scored for mentions, recommendations, and citations.
Why do repeat runs matter for AI visibility measurement?
AI answers are probabilistic — the same question asked twice returns different brand lists. A tool that samples each prompt once reports that randomness as if it were movement. Aggregating multiple runs per prompt separates real visibility change from noise.
Can I use both tools together?
Yes, and some teams should: Semrush for the traditional SEO program it's excellent at, and a dedicated AI-visibility measurement alongside it. Treyci is monthly with no annual contract, so running it next to an existing Semrush subscription is a low-commitment test.
